Interim report of activities done by Malabar cancer centre at Kuttiattoor GP (Kannur Lok sabha constituency)
Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAANJHI) Scheme was launched on 11th October, 2014 inspired by the principles and values of Mahatma Gandhi. The Scheme places equal stress on nurturing values of national pride, patriotism, community spirit, self-confidence and on developing infrastructure. The SAANJHI will keep the soul of rural India alive while providing its people with quality access to basic amenities and opportunities to enable them to shape their own destiny. It envisages integrated development of the selected village across multiple areas such as agriculture, health, education, sanitation, environment, livelihoods, etc. Honorable Kannur MP has selected Kuttiattoor Grama Panchayath under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAANJHI).
Malabar cancer centre (MCC) Thalassery has adopted the Grama Panchayath for total health care and health literacy. The formal inauguration of the project was done on 28/3/15 by district collector. On the same day, a workshop and introduction to the project was conducted by Dr Satheesan Balasubramanian, Director, (MCC).
A core committee meeting was conducted on 5-1-16 at Kuttiattoor Grama Panchayath and discussions regarding future activities and starting of anti tobacco activities in the educational institutions were discussed. Following this an anti tobacco short film produced by MCC was screened for the high school children in the Govt School at Kuttiattoor.
A survey was conducted in the GP with the help of SAANJHI volunteers to know the present life style practices and health related status. The survey questionnaire was prepared by MCC and distributed in each household and they were instructed to fill and return it in sealed covers within the stipulated time. The survey forms were evaluated by the biostatistics department of the MCC and the report was submitted to the panchayath president on 14-7-16. The following areas were identified for intervention. Accordingly, a framework for intervention was prepared.
The second review meeting of the SAANJHI was held at Kuttiattoor Panchayath on 1-9-16.
Review of present activities and future mile stones to be achieved were discussed. A few of the ongoing govt projects (household waste management project under suchitwa mission,“POLIVU” project-setting up of vegitable garden under kudumbasree ) were merged into the SAANJHI project and steps taken to implement these projects on a larger scale so that the entire panchayath may be benefited.
Future activities like Conducting a blood group detection camp along with MCC blood bank, Visit to MCC by the panchayath members for general orientation on cancer, initiation of morning and evening walking group under the auspices of Kudumbasree, Awareness programs along with Major Panchayath level community activities like Keralotsavam, Senior citizen welfare activities and conducting Anti tobacco awareness program “Munnettam” at school.
