Free Solar Lantern Distribution @ Kangod Village of Uttar Kannada District in Karnataka State for poor pottery families
Canara Bank Deshpande Rural Self Employment Training Institute (R) (CBD-RSETI) has been setup under the auspices of Canara Bank and Sri Vishwanathrao R. Deshpande Memorial Trust (R), Haliyal on 2nd July 2004 at Haliyal of Uttar Kannada District with a view to empower the rural youth with the spirit of self respect and the power of self employment by exploring their ability and skills. Apart from self employment trainings, Institute is also involved in rural development activities through formation of Self Help Groups and strengthening its activities.
Institute is also involved in Samsadara Adharsha Gram Yojane (SAGY) undertaken by the Central Government. Kangod village in Siddapur Taluk of Uttar Kannada District in Karnataka State is selected under SAGY for its integral development.
Institute identified 32 poor pottery families in Kangod Village, where traditional pots were made to make their livelihood. These families find difficult in carrying out their activities when there is no electricity. Considering their need, Institute emphasized to provide 32 free solar lamps to these 32 families to carry out traditional pottery activity.
Free Solar lamps were distributed in presence of Dr. Nagendra Honnalli, Assistant Commissioner, Sirsi on 17th October, 2015. Sri D.G.Hegde, Tahasildar, Siddapur, Sri C.B.Angadi In-charge Officer SAGY & AEE PRED, Sirsi Division, Sri Nagaraj Naik, President Kangod Gram Panchayat, Sri Nandakumar Pai, in-charge E.O., Taluk Panchayat Siddapur, & Sri Nilkant Gouder, Member, Taluk Panchayat, Siddapur were present on this occasion.
