ATMA Dimapur organised a training and demonstration programme under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) on potato cultivation on October 10at Selouphe village in collaboration with District Agriculture Officer (DAO).
In his keynote address, DAO and project director (ATMA) S. Bendangtemsu encouraged the trainees and SHGs from Ikishe and Selouphe villages to take up farming activities for additional income generation and sustainability.
He said that through such efforts the two villages could establish an impact on other surrounding villages to emulate the model set by them.
Training on potato cultivation was given by AI Rokovotsolie, who explained on the package and practices, soil type, seed selection, land preparation, method of sowing, sowing lime, irrigation and harvest.
During the course of discussions on pests, diseases and other problems related to potato cultivation, various indigenous and technical methods of prevention and protection against such problems were recommended and demonstrated in the field by the resource person.
In the programme chaired by APP L. Monsanger, potato seeds and farm implements were also distributed by the agriculture department to the participants. Altogether 14 SHGs from Ikishe and Selouphe villages attended the training programme.
