100% liquor making at homes in Kapa has been stopped and almost 80% of the cases of drunk man/woman is reduced, as of now.

Kapa is one of the tribal village of Mandla district,Madhya Pradesh, which is selected under Saansad Aadarsh Gram Yojna. In almost every household of Kapa, there was a trend of preparation of Mahua liquor. This makes the availability of liquor easier to villagers both men and women. There was the serious problem of liquor consumption in Kapa. This issue was well recognised since first meeting. To combat the issue of liquor consumption in the village, focussed addiction eradication drive has been execute by District and Block Administration. For this, regular nukkad natak has been done by Kala Prathak Dal from Social Welfare Department, to spread the words of demerits of liquor consumption.

This is done with the help of PRI members of Gram Panchayat of Kapa. Gradually, the women (mostly) and some men took this issue and decided in one of the gram sabha in November 2014, to make the norms of village of prohibition of liquor consumption at Kapa village. This norm actually facilitated to unease the accessibility and availability of liquor at village, which solves the problem of liquor consumption almost 60%. Then in last Holi (2015), it was decided  by villagers that in Holi no villager will drink liquor or any type of addiction. The villagers have taken the penality who among them has broken the norm. The awareness for eradication of liquor consumption in village has been regularly facilitated by administration through Kala Prathak Dal by their fortnightly performance  at village in all 4 hamlets.

Now there is a group of more than 50 youths is promoted who along with Women SHGs do advocacy in village for complete eradication of village. In one of the recent discussion  with  about 60 women, it came that now cent percent liquor making at homes in Kapa has been stopped and almost 80% of the cases of drunk man/woman is reduced, as of now.
