Parasi is a Gram Panchyat in Tamar block in Ranchi district. It is located around 80KM form district headquarters and around 5KM from Ranchi-Tata highway. The village was selected under SAGY in November 2014. The village has population of 6010 with 1412 families. The Gram Panchayat consists of 4 revenue villages and each village consist of around 5 tollas.
Under the Sansaad Adarsh Grm Yojana (SAGY) the first thing to be done is baseline survey of households. For conducting this survey and carrying out other activities we formed a team of 25 youth volunteers from the Gram Panchayat. The youth come from the all tollas of the GP. We first trained them for conducting the baseline survey of families, of villages and Gram Panchayat.
Most of the volunteers belonged to the age group of 20-30 years and most of them are educated. The selection process was self selection in nature. We called for one youth form each tolla so that group represents the entire Gram Panchayat and we will be able to reach to the each tolla through these volunteers. The group was formed in the December 2004, immediately after the GP has been selected under SAGY.

They worked voluntarily for conducting the survey. They visited the remotest tollas for surveying the households where governance and administration reached very rarely.
After completing the baseline survey we gave them awareness training regarding various welfare schemes being implemented by the government. The main focus of this training is the various administrative procedures being followed in every scheme and concerned authority at various administrative levels. We informed them about the importance of Gram Sabha in implementing various schemes.
These young volunteers helped in conducting various entry point activities like organizing health camp, animal health camp, pension adalat and grievance redressal camp. They have done “shramadana” for renovating traditional water resources. The group has been playing very important role in mobilizing villagers to adopt SRI (System of Rice Intensification) techniques for rice cultivation.
We explained them about the preparation of Village Development Plan (VDP) for the GP. The youth are very interested in participating in this process. Then we formed sub groups for each sector like personal development, human development, social development, economic development, basic amenities and governance. The each team worked hard to provide various inputs in preparing the VDP. They worked with the officials from the concerned department to locate site for various structures like check dam, pond and other micro irrigation structures.
The youth club will be registered and linked with the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathana (NYKS). Now these committees are monitoring the implementation of various projects. They are in contact with the line department officials to know about the status of various projects being included in the VDP by villagers. The interaction between the citizens and government has improved a lot. This group will be very effective tool in reaching out to the remotest villagers and ensuring their participation in the governance and development.
